Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Arrival and St. Peter Basilica

    Arrive in Rome. Visit St. Peter’s Basilica (Vatican City), which houses the tomb of Simon Peter beneath the altar. Explore the Scavi excavations where Peter’s relics were discovered.

  • Day 2 - Santi Apostoli Church

    Visit Santi Apostoli Church, containing relics of Philip and James the Lesser (son of Alphaeus). Nearby, see the Basilica of St. Bartholomew on Tiber Island, holding relics of Bartholomew.

  • Day 3 - Archbasilica of St. John lateran

    Visit the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran, which holds the skulls of Peter and Paul. End at the Basilica of Santa Croce for relics of Judas Thaddaeus and Simon the Zealot.

  • Day 4 - Almafi

    Travel to Amalfi (3-hour drive). Visit the Cathedral of St. Andrew, housing relics of Andrew transferred from Constantinople

  • Day 5 - Salerno cathedral

    Head to Salerno (1-hour drive). Explore Salerno Cathedral, where Matthew is buried. The cathedral’s crypt features Byzantine mosaics depicting his life.

  • Day 6 - Cathedral of Santiago

    Fly to Santiago de Compostela. Visit the Cathedral of Santiago, the endpoint of the Camino pilgrimage and the reputed tomb of James the Greater. Attend the Pilgrim’s Mass.

  • Day 7 - Museum of Pilgrimage

    Explore the city’s historic quarter and the Museum of Pilgrimage to contextualize James’ role in medieval Christianity.

  • Day 8 - Athens and Patras

    Fly to Athens, then drive to Patras (3 hours). Visit St. Andrew’s Basilica, rebuilt in 1974 to house Andrew’s relics, including his skull returned from Rome.

  • Day 9 - Ancient Patras

    Explore ancient Patras, including the Roman Odeon and the archaeological museum.

  • Day 10 - Basilica of St. John

    Fly to Izmir, Turkey. Visit the Basilica of St. John in Ephesus, built over the traditional tomb of John the Evangelist. Explore the nearby House of the Virgin Mary

  • Day 11 - Martyrion of St. Philp

    Travel to Hierapolis (2.5-hour drive). Visit the Martyrion of St. Philip, where Philip was reportedly martyred. Recent excavations claim to have identified his tomb.

  • St. Polycharp Church

    Return to Izmir. Optional visit to St. Polycarp Church, one of the Seven Churches of Revelation.

  • Day 12/13 - St. Matthew of Abbey

    Fly to Frankfurt, then drive to Trier (2 hours). Visit St. Matthias Abbey, which holds the relics of Matthias, the Apostle who replaced Judas. The abbey’s Romanesque architecture is a highlight.

  • Day 14 - Trier's Roman ruins

    Explore Trier’s Roman ruins, including the Porta Nigra and Imperial Baths.

  • Day 15 - Return Home

    Depart from Frankfurt or extend to optional sites like San Thome Basilica in Chennai, India (traditional tomb of Thomas), or Gonio Fortress, Georgia (associated with Matthias).
